StratLogger 1.3.2

StratLogger is a specialized application designed to facilitate the construction of stratigraphic columns, offering an alternative or complement to traditional paper-based field notebooks and drawing sheets used in stratigraphy.

The software leverages the capabilities of the iPad, including GPS, camera, and data management features, enabling geologists to systematically record sedimentological and stratigraphic data for successive layers. It automatically logs geolocation information and allows users to attach photographs to each layer’s lithologic description, enhancing data detail and accuracy.

StratLogger provides options for exporting a real-time visual representation of the stratigraphic column as a .jpeg image. Additionally, it can generate formatted .csv files containing individual layer records, facilitating seamless integration with digital analysis and drawing tools. The lithology photographs are also exported with indexing linked to their corresponding measured layers.

The application incorporates optional pedagogical tools, such as feedback and hypothesis questions, aimed at increasing student engagement and understanding during fieldwork. Responses to these prompts are recorded, providing insights into how field data collection relates to interpretations of the paleoenvironment within the study section.
